Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Change Portrait Keyboard Types in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

By default, Samsung Galaxy S5 uses Qwerty keyboard that has similar looks with the PC or laptop keyboards to facilitate the users when they want to enter text (e.g: when composing text or email messages, etc). As same as another features, Qwerty keyboard is loved by some users and hated by some others. For those of you who often use Qwerty keyboard in laptop or PC, this keyboard type will probably be able to help you to type better. But, for those of you who seldom or have difficulty to use Qwerty keyboard or those of you who want to keep using the same keyboard type as you used to have in your old phone, then it may be hard for you to use qwerty keyboard. Luckily, Samsung Galaxy S5 has a feature that will let you to switch the keyboard types between qwerty and 3x4 keyboards so that you can enable a keyboard type that fit with your need.

How to switch between Qwerty and 3x4 keyboards?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the System section and then tap Language and input .
  3. If necessary, tap Default and then select Samsung keyboard.
  4. Tap next to Samsung keyboard to open up more detailed settings.
  5. Tap English(UK). FYI, the option name may vary depending on what the input language you have chosen for your Samsung keyboard.
  6. Now, you can select the required keyboard type from the following options:
    • Qwerty keyboard: select this option if you want to use Qwerty keyboard.
    • 3x4 keyboard: select this option if you want to use the old style keyboard that you used to see in the old phones. This keyboard is simpler and has bigger keys than Qwerty keyboard. You can operate this keyboard using the same way as when you used to do in an old phone, for instance if you want to enter letter "c" then you have to tap the letter key "abc" three times. You can see the picture below to see the display of the Qwerty and 3x4 keyboards.

As a note, 3x4 keyboard only available for portrait view thus if you have selected this keyboard and then you hold the phone in landscape view then the phone will automatically use Qwerty keyboard. So, how about you? Which keyboard type do you like best?
