Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Enable and Use Continuous Input in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

Predictive text is an auto correct feature in the stock keyboard in Samsung Galaxy S5 that is designed to help you to type better since it'll provide you with some suggestion words so that you can correct or complete a misspelled or incomplete word you're typing by selecting the required suggestion word. When predictive text is enabled, there will be another option available for you called continuous input, which if you enable it, you will be able to enter text by swiping your finger across the keyboard so that you can enter text faster since you don't need to tap letter by letter to write a word.

How to enable continuous input?
Assuming that the predictive text has been enabled, then you can enable continuous input by using the following steps:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the System section and then tap Language and input .
  3. If necessary, tap Default and then select Samsung keyboard.
  4. Tap next to Samsung keyboard to view more detailed settings.
  5. If necessary, you can enable Auto capitalise by checking the box in the right side of this option. When this option is enabled, the first letter of a sentence will be capitalized automatically without you have to enable the caps lock key first.
  6. If necessary, you can enable Auto spacing by checking the box in the right side of this option. When this option is enabled, a space will be inserted automatically after you have finished typing a word.
  7. If necessary, you can enable Auto punctuate by checking the box in the right side of this option. When this option is enabled, a full stop will be inserted automatically when you tap the space bar twice.
  8. Now, scroll down the screen and you can enable continuous input by tapping Keyboard swipe and then select Continuous input.

How to use continuous input to enter texts?
Before using continuous input to enter texts, make sure to use qwerty keyboard since the continuous input is optimized to be used in this keyboard type. Well, after you have enabled continuous input in your keyboard, now you can use it to type faster in any app or screen where you can enter texts. As the example, we'll use continuous input to write a new text message in Messaging app:
  1. Open Messaging app.
  2. Tap to create a new text message.
  3. Tap the Enter message field to display the keyboard.
  4. Enter the required word by sliding your finger across the required letter key on the keyboard, for instance when you want to enter text "home" then you have to slide your finger across the letter "h" to "o" to "m" to "e" continuously without lifting your finger. FYI, if you have enabled auto spacing, when you lift your finger then it'll automatically insert a space after the word, lets you insert the next word without having to insert the space manually.

As a note, since continuous input is only available when you have enabled predictive text, then disable the predictive text will automatically disable continuous input as well.
