Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Enable and Use Cover to Mute/Pause Gesture in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

There are some of gestures that can be used to easily and quickly control functions in Samsung Galaxy S5, one of which is covering screen with hand gesture which will let you to mute incoming calls or alarms as well as to pause the media playback simply by covering the screen with your palm. Using gestures to mute/pause is simpler and easier than if you have to manually mute/pause by tapping the on-screen icon or pressing the physical button.

How to enable or disable mute/pause by covering screen with hand gesture?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Motion section and then tap Motions and gestures .
  3. Tap Mute/Pause. If Mute/Pause is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on.
  4. Depending on your current settings, tap Covering screen with hand to enable or disable this option. When the checkbox next to this option is checked means this feature is enabled and you can mute/pause by covering the screen with your hand.

How to use mute/pause by covering screen with hand gesture?
Assuming that you have enabled the covering screen with hand gesture, then you can use this feature to mute/pause as described in the following examples:
  1. Mute incoming calls
When an incoming call is received, cover the screen with your palm to mute the call so that the phone won't play the ringtone.
  2. Mute alarms
When an alarm goes off, cover the screen with your palm to mute the alarm so that the phone won't play the alarm tone.
  3. Pause the media playback
When you're playing music in the stock Music player app or watching video in the stock Video player app, cover the screen with your palm to pause the music or video. FYI, since this gesture can only be used to pause the media playback, then you have to tap the on-screen Play button manually if you want to resume it.

For the record, this feature won't work when the screen is off, when you're using earphones and when it's used in the third-party apps.
