Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable, Customize, and Use Interaction Control Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Interaction control is one of accessibility features in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that you can use to block a specific area or whole of your phone's screen from touch interaction so it won't react when touched. As the example, you can use this feature to block the top and the bottom of the screen when reading an article in a webpage to prevent you from accidentally touching menus or options in the Internet app, you can use this feature to block the whole screen so it won't react when touched when you hold your phone to watch your favourite video in the Video Player app, etc.


How to enable or disable the interaction control feature?
You can turn on or off this feature by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Accessibility and then tap it.
  3. Tap Dexterity and interaction.
  4. Tap Interaction control.
  5. Depending on your current settings, tap the ON/OFF switch to enable or disable the interaction control feature. When the switch turns blue , means this feature is enabled.


How to customize the interaction control feature?
While you're in the interaction control menu, scroll the screen to the very bottom to customize the following options to fit your need:
  1. Adjust the time limit.
    If needed, you can set how long interaction control feature will be on before being turned off automatically by using these steps:
    • Tap Time limit.
    • Set the desired time limit and then tap Done button to save the changes. As the example, if you set the time limit to 30 minutes, then the interaction control will be automatically turned off after 30 minutes of activation.
  2. Block or unblock keys and/or keyboard.
    If needed, you can allow or restrict the Power key, Volume key, and/or Samsung keyboard functions while using the interaction control by using these steps:
    • To block or unblock the Power key function(this option is disabled/blocked by default), tap the ON/OFF switch next to Power key. When the switch turns blue , means you can use the Power key function while you're using the interaction control.
    • To block or unblock the Volume key function(this option is disabled/blocked by default), tap the ON/OFF switch next to Volume key. When the switch turns blue , means you can use the Volume key function while you're using the interaction control.
    • To block or unblock the Samsung keyboard function(this option is enabled/unblocked by default), tap the ON/OFF switch next to Keyboard. When the switch turns blue , means you can use the Samsung keyboard function while you're using the interaction control.


How to use the interaction control feature?
As the example, we'll use this feature when reading an article in a webpage in the Internet app by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Internet app and then open a webpage.
  2. To turn on the interaction control mode, press and hold the Home key and the Volume down key at the same time.
    FYI, if the direct access feature is enabled and the Interaction control option is selected, you can turn it on by pressing the Home key three times quickly to open up the direct access menu and then select Interaction control.
  3. Outline the area you want to block from touch interaction or check the box in the left side of the Block whole screen to block the whole screen. Tap Done button to save the changes.
  4. The restricted/blocked area will be covered with the blue frame. If you didn't block the whole screen, you still can do touch interaction in the unblocked area. You can also use Power key, Volume key, and/or Samsung keyboard if it's unblocked. In this state, the auto rotate feature will be turned off and all calls, some app notifications, and touch interaction for the notification panel and quick settings panel will be blocked.
  5. If you set the time limit for the interaction control feature, the interaction control mode will be turned off automatically after the time limit is over. However, if you'd like to manually turn off this mode, press and hold the Home key and the Volume down key at the same time.
    FYI, if the direct access feature is enabled and the Interaction control option is selected, you can turn it off by pressing the Home key three times quickly.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Change Default Search Engine in Internet App in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Using search engine can help you finding information in the Internet with more easily. By default, when you enter a keyword in the address bar in the Internet app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, it'll automatically be searched in the Google search engine. When needed, you can change the default search engine to the required one according to your need and preferences.


How to change the default search engine in the Internet app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Internet app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Default search engine and then select from the following options:
    • Google(this option is set as the default)
    • Ask Jeeves
    • Yahoo UK & Ireland
    • Bing
  4. The default search engine has been changed to the selected one. From now on, when you enter a keyword in the address bar, the Internet app will automatically search it in the search engine you have set as the default.

Secret mode(it's commonly known as incognito mode) is a feature available in the Internet app in Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge that you can use to browse the Internet in private. When this mode is enabled, your browsing history won't be recorded so you can browse the Internet securely without leaving any trace.


How to use secret mode in the Internet app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Internet app.
  2. To enable the secret mode, tap at the bottom right corner of the screen and then tap Enable secret.
  3. For security reason, it's recommended for you to set a password or enable fingerprints to access the secret mode because it can prevent unauthorized users from accessing your browser, bookmarks and saved pages made in the secret mode. Here's the steps:
    • Tap More at the top right and then select Secret mode security.
    • Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Use password to start making a password for secret mode.
    • Enter a password. As a note, if you'd like using your fingerprints as the alternative verification, check the box in the left side of Also fingerprints. Tap Continue button.
    • Re-enter the password to confirm it and then tap OK button.
    • From now on, you have to enter the password or use your fingerprints to access the secret mode.
    • Tap the Back key to return to the previous screen.
  4. While you're in the secret mode, you can use the Internet app as you used to do when in the regular mode, e.g., browse webpages, bookmark webpages, save webpages for offline reading, etc. As a note, the sites you visit won't be recorded, and all bookmarks and saved pages made in secret mode won't be shown when this mode is disabled.
  5. To disable or exit from the secret mode, tap at the bottom right corner of the screen and then tap Disable secret. FYI, this mode will automatically be disabled, when you close the Internet app.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Change Default Homepage in Internet App in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

By default, quick access is set as the default homepage in the Internet app in Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, which means it will automatically be opened when you open a new tab or view the homepage. When needed, you can change the default homepage to the current page or other webpage for easier access.


How to change the default homepage in the Internet app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Internet app.
  2. Tap More at the top right to view additional options.
  3. If needed, scroll down the additional options and then select Settings.
  4. Tap Homepage.
  5. Now, you can change the default homepage by selecting from the following options:
    • Quick access: select this option if you want to set quick access which contains webpages you have added to the quick access and most visited webpages as the default homepage.
    • Current page: select this option if you want to set the currently opened page as the default homepage.
    • Other webpage: select this option if you want to set other webpage as the default homepage. When you select this option, you need to enter the web address and then tap OK button.
  6. The default homepage has been changed and the Internet app will automatically open the homepage you have set when you open a new tab or view the homepage.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Add a Webpage to Quick Access in Internet App in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

The Internet app in Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge uses quick access as the default homepage, which means this app will automatically open it each time a new tab is opened. You can use this feature as an alternative way to easily access your favourite webpages that you have added to the quick access or most visited webpages.


How to add a webpage to quick access in the Internet app?
You can do so by using two different methods: while opening a webpage and while viewing quick access.

Method #1: While opening a webpage
  1. While you're opening a webpage in the Internet app, tap More at the top right and then select Add to Quick access.
  2. The shortcut of the currently opened webpage has been created in the quick access list.

Method #2: While viewing quick access
  1. When quick access is set as the default homepage, tap at the bottom of the screen to view it.
  2. Tap to manually add a webpage to quick access.
  3. Enter the web address and then tap Save button.
  4. The shortcut of the entered webpage has been created in the quick access list.


How to access a webpage via quick access in the Internet app?
You can easily access the webpage you have added to Quick access by using the following steps:
  1. While you're browsing with the Internet app and quick access is set as the default homepage, you can access it by tapping at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to view quick access in new tab, tap at the bottom right corner and then tap New tab.
  2. Tap a shortcut of a webpage to open it.
  3. The webpage will be loaded shortly

You can make the way accessing your favourite webpages, either those you find while browsing the Internet or those you have bookmarked before, much easier and faster by adding shortcuts to those webpages on the home screen. It'll save you more time because you can easily access those webpages simply by tapping the shortcut on the home screen.


How to easily access favourite webpages from home screen?
There are two ways that can be taken so you can easily access your favourite webpages the from home screen: by adding a shortcut to a webpage on the home screen and by adding S Bookmarks widget on the home screen.

Method #1: By adding a shortcut to a webpage on the home screen
  1. While you're opening a webpage in the Internet app, tap More at the top right and then select Add shortcut on home screen to create the shortcut of the currently opened webpage on the home screen.
  2. Now, you can easily access the webpage by tapping the shortcut on the home screen and the webpage will be loaded shortly in the Internet app.

Method #2: By adding S bookmarks widget to the home screen
  1. Go to the widgets list by long tapping on an empty area on the home screen and then tap Widgets button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Find S Bookmarks 2x2 widget. Drag the widget to an empty area on the home screen and then release to place it.
  3. If needed, you can adjust the widget size by dragging in or out the blue frame.
  4. Now, you can easily access a bookmarked webpage by tapping the required bookmark on the S bookmark widget on the home screen and the webpage will be loaded shortly in the Internet app.

When you find a nice post/article on a webpage while browsing with the Internet app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and want to read it conveniently without you have to be disturbed with the extra things in the webpage, e.g., advertisement, the webpage header, widgets, etc., you can use the reading mode feature in this app so those extra things will be eliminated and you can focus on what you want to read.


How to use the reading mode in the Internet app?
You can use this feature by using the following steps:
  1. While you're reading a content of a webpage, tap in the left side of the address bar to enable the reading mode feature. FYI, this icon won't be available if the webpage is not fully loaded.
  2. While the reading mode feature is enabled, you can do the following actions:
    • Adjusting the page size, go to the step #3.
    • Sharing the page, go to the step #4.
    • Saving the page for offline reading, go to the step #5.
    • Finding a word within the page, go to the step #6.
    • Using the night mode feature, go to the step #7.
    • Adjusting the zoom level, go to the step #8.
    • Disabling the reading mode, go to the step #9.
  3. Adjusting the page size:
    If you have difficulty when reading with the current page size, you can adjust its size by tapping Enlarge to make it bigger or tapping Shrink to make it smaller.
  4. Sharing the page:
    If you want to share the page you're reading with others, tap More at the top right and then select Share. Next, you just need to follow the on-screen instructions to finish the process.
  5. Saving the page for offline reading:
    You can save the page you're reading so you can read it later without you have to be connected to the Internet by tapping More at the top right and then select Save webpage.
  6. Finding a word within the page:
    You can find a word within the page you're reading so you can easily jump to the part you're looking by using these steps:
    • Tap More at the top right and then select Find on page.
    • Enter a word you want to find in the Find on page field and then tap in the virtual keyboard to start searching. Your phone will highlight every instance of the search word you've entered. Tap or to find each instance of the word you entered.
  7. Using the night mode feature:
    You can enable this mode to reverse the color between the background and the font so you can have a better display to read the page while you're in a low light environment by using these steps:
    • Tap More at the top right and then select Enable Night mode to enable it.
    • The background color will turn black and the font will turn white.
    • If you'd like to disable the night mode, tap More at the top right and then select Disable Night mode.
  8. Adjusting the zoom level:
    If needed, you can adjust the zoom level of the page you're reading by pinching the screen with two fingers to zoom out, or spreading two fingers apart together on the screen to zoom in.
  9. Disabling the reading mode:
    If you want to exit from this mode and want to revert the page back to the original state, tap in the left side of the address bar.
