Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Change a Memo Category in Memo App in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

By default, if you don't change the category when composing a new memo, the memo will be placed to the My memo category. However, you can change the memo category to other category, either by moving it to a new category or by moving it to an existing category. This will help you to manage your memos and provide you an easier access since the memos are placing in a proper category.


How to change a memo category in Memo app?
As the example, we'll move a memo from the My memo category to other category by using the following steps:
  1. Open Memo app.
  2. Tap at the top left corner of the screen to open up the Memo app menus.
  3. Tap My memos to view all memos under this category.
  4. Long tap the required memo to select it.
  5. Tap at the top right or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then tap Move. To move the memo to an existing category go to the step #6, while to move the memo to a new category go to the step #7.
  6. Move the memo to an existing category:
    • Tap the required category you want to place the selected memo.
    • The selected memo has been moved to the selected category.
  7. Move the memo to a new category:
    • Tap Create category button.
    • Enter the category name.
    • Tap OK button.
    • The selected memo has been moved to the newly created category.

If you don't change the category when composing a new memo in Memo app, the memo will be placed in the My memos category by default. Fortunately, you're allowed to do some actions to manage categories in this app, e.g: create new categories so that you can classify your memos based on its category for easier access, delete existing categories so that you can clean up Memo app from unused categories, and rename existing categories so that you can give new or proper names for your existing categories.


How to add, delete or rename a category in Memo app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Memo app.
  2. Tap at the top left corner of the screen to open up the Memo app menus.
  3. Tap Manage categories. To add a new category go to the step #4, to delete an existing category go to the step #5, while to rename an existing category go to the step #6.
  4. Add a new category:
    • Tap at the top right corner of the screen to add a new category.
    • Enter the category name. It'd better if you assign a proper name for the category so that it can describe all memos within it. As the example, you can create "works" as the new category and then place all memos related with your work in this category.
    • Tap OK button.
    • The new category has been added.
  5. Delete an existing category:
    • Tap next to the required category you want to delete to.
    • Tap Delete button to confirm.
    • The selected category has been deleted. As a note, deleting a category won't delete memos within it as they will be moved automatically to the My memos category.
  6. Rename an existing category:
    • Long tap the required category you want to rename to.
    • Enter the new name for the selected category.
    • Tap Rename button.
    • The selected category has been renamed.

Memo is a pre-installed app available in Samsung Galaxy S5 that can be used to easily and quickly save any information. You can use the virtual keyboard to manually type your memo, or you can copy the required information from other apps. 


How to compose a new memo in Memo app?
You can create a new memo in Memo app by using the following steps:
  1. Open Memo app.
  2. Tap to compose a new memo.
  3. Write down your memo in the Add memo field using the virtual keyboard. If you'd like to insert some text you have copied from other apps, long tap the screen and then select Paste to paste the latest copied text or select Clipboard to paste a copied text from the clipboard.
  4. While composing a memo, you can use these following options:
    • : tap this option to add a new category or set a category for your memo.
    • : tap this option to insert images into your memo. You can choose Take picture to take a picture using the stock Camera app or select Image to insert a picture from your Gallery app.
    • : tap this option to make a voice recording and insert it into your memo.
  5. If needed, you can add a title for your memo by entering the required title in the Enter title field above the memo.
  6. Once done, tap Save button to save your memo.
