Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Enable and Use Task Edge Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

If you have updated your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, you'll notice that there are some enhancements for the edge screen. It's now displaying more panels, one of which is the task edge panel that will let you easily and quickly access specific app functions(e.g., create event, add alarm, view bookmarks, etc) or to communicate with favourite contacts(e.g., compose a new text message, call a specific contact, etc) from the edge screen.

How to enable the task edge feature?
This feature is enabled by default. But, if it's not available in the edge screen panels, you can turn on this feature by using two different methods: from the settings menu and from the edge screen.

Method #1: From the settings menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Edge screen and then tap it.
  3. Tap Edge panels. If it's off, slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to turn it on. The switch turns blue when it's enabled.
  4. Check the box above the task edge panel to enable and display it in the edge screen.
  5. Tap to edit the task edge panel.
  6. Tap the required items in the left frame to add or display it in the task edge panel. As the example, if you want to display a shortcut to compose a new text message in the task edge panel, tap Compose message icon in the left frame. FYI, you can add up to 10 items in the task edge panel.
  7. Tap in the required item in the right frame to remove it from the task edge panel. As the example, if you'd like to remove add alarm shortcut from the task edge panel, tap in the Add alarm icon in the right frame.
  8. To rearrange items in the task edge panel, drag and drop items.

Method #2: From the edge screen(in condition that the edge panels feature is on)
  1. Drag the edge screen handle towards the centre of the screen to open the edge screen panel.
  2. Tap to go to the edge panels menu.
  3. Check the box above the task edge panel to enable and display it in the edge screen.
  4. Tap to edit the task edge panel.
  5. Tap the required items in the left frame to add or display it in the task edge panel. As the example, if you want to display a shortcut to compose a new text message in the task edge panel, tap Compose message icon in the left frame. FYI, you can add up to 10 items in the task edge panel.
  6. Tap in the required item in the right frame to remove it from the task edge panel. As the example, if you'd like to remove add alarm shortcut from the task edge panel, tap in the Add alarm icon in the right frame.

How to use the task edge feature?
As the example, we'll create a new text message from the task edge panel by using the following steps:
  1. Drag the edge panel handle towards the centre of the screen to open the edge panel.
  2. If it doesn't display the task edge panel, swipe the screen to the right or left to find it.
  3. In the task edge panel, tap Compose message icon.
  4. Enter the recipient's number in the Enter recipients field, or tap to pick up a contact from your contacts list.
  5. Write your message in the Enter message field and then tap Send button to send the message.

  3. Tap Information stream.
  4. If the Information stream is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on. The switch turns green when it's enabled.
  5. Scroll down the screen and then tap Weather.
  6. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to enable this option and show weather info on the edge screen. The switch turns green when it's enabled.

How to view weather info on the edge screen?
When you have enabled the option to show the weather info on the edge screen, you can use the following steps to view the info on the edge screen:
  1. While the main screen is off, swipe the edge screen upwards then downwards or vice versa in one quick motion to turn on the edge screen.
  2. The weather info will be displayed on the edge screen.

There are some ways that you can do to customize your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, one of which is by changing its theme. This will change the visual elements of the home screen, lock screen, apps and icons.


How to change Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge theme?
You can do so by using two different methods: from a home screen and from the settings menu.

You can change your phone's theme from a home screen by using the following steps:
  1. While you're in a home screen, pinch the screen using two fingers or long tap on an empty area.

Method #2: From the settings menu

  2. Scroll down the screen to the Personal section and then tap Themes.
  3. Tap the required theme you want to use. By default, there are three preloaded themes available: Default, Pink and Space. If you'd like to have more themes, you can download them from the theme store by tapping the Theme Store button at the bottom of the screen.
